A Novel Approach

I wanna hold your hand

I have been feeling stagnant recently

I need a fresh outlook, a

New approach so I have made

A resolution, a radical one maybe.

I’m going to disconnect, a bit,

From the internet this weekend (Gasp!).

I can’t go cold turkey because

I do have work emails to

Respond to, but, I am going

To take Layla’s “Sprench” class on

Saturday morning.  She has a two

Hour line-up of language and poetry

Scheduled for me.  In the afternoon

Brandon’s intermediate yoga class, followed by

Scrabble with friends at the new

Local hipster café (I’ll wear black).

Sunday I have a brunch date,

With a man I met virtually

I’m looking forward to a face-to-face

So I can see his eyes,

And hear his voice, and see

If there’s any chemistry beyond e-mail.

I’m hoping to clear my mind

Of who has read my blog

Or made a witty remark on

Facebook or looked at my profile.

Don’t get me wrong.  I love

Those things, but I need a

Change, so here I go, being

Present with what I can see

And touch and taste and smell.

Is that such a novel approach?

If you need me, give me

A call, or better yet, stop

By.  I’d love to see you.

A “novel” Six Word Friday post.  Have you got any new approaches that you’re trying out?  My sister is always working on a new scheme, regime or philosophy.  That’s one of the things that makes her so fun.

You too sweetie and don’t be afraid of online dating. Like social networking, it is a way to give you a connection that you just might not have otherwise.

    Sounds like fun! Enjoy!

I’m usually unplugged on the weekends myself; sometimes, I even start on Thursday night!

Love this idea. In Ontario, Canada where I live, Monday is Family Day which makes this weekend a long weekend. As a result, I’ve disconnected from the web too – a bit. ;)

It’s Family Day weekend – I’m spending it with family. ;)

I hope your weekend plans end up as enjoyable as they sound!

Good for you. I, too, have been feeling overwhelmed by technology and the speed of things. I wish to be disconnected, but only in a good way, like you wearing black and being present. Step away from the computer, the cell phone, FB instead sit and read a novel, play soldiers with my son and sit on the bed and talk with my daughter about nothing. Thanks for the reminder to find ways to fill ourselves up. I hope it worked for you, my friend.

I’m impressed that you can do that. I realize that I am afraid that I will miss out on something because so many of my friends are constantly on-line too.

You have a holiday called Family Day? Canada is so progressive. I think that’s a wonderful pretext for a day off.

I feel like my mind is on speed sometimes because of the constant barrage of technology. It felt good to slow down.

I thought I’d give you all the update. I didn’t stay off the computer completely. On Saturday morning I sneaked a peek on Facebook where I found a dinner invitation from a friend. So we ended up having dinner together, which was lots of fun. So my virtual life once again enhanced my real life.

However, I had a nice Saturday with the kids giving them my total attention. They appreciated it, and I also felt more relaxed.

Alas, the brunch date was better on computer than in person. I’m thinking of taking a break from the online dating thing for a while because it does seem to take up time that I could be spending reading a novel or writing.

That sounds like a good Saturday (other than brunch).
I’m no expert, but I believe that if you spend time focusing on yourself and your family doing things that you love, you will be recharged with positive energy that can’t help but attract to you the person you are supposed to be with. exactly when it’s supposed to happen. You seem like a great person who deserves whatever/whoever you want or need.
    Reading a novel…how novel! hahaha

    Brook,

I believe that too! I know, can you imagine having time to read a novel? I find that if I start one, though, I can read it bit by bit each night.

  16. 16 Brook said at 10:48 am on February 21st, 2011:

Somehow I ended up married to a guy who doesn’t like to read. So if I read much I get to hear about wasting time. mleh. But if we watch tv together then it’s not just me and he can’t complain too much. It doesn’t help that I tend to hyper-focus when I’m reading. so I’m very hard to tear away from it.
I miss it, but with kid and school I can’t read that much right now :)

It may not be the greatest thing in the world that watching TV has now become “couple togetherness time,” but if it makes your partner happy, it can’t be bad either :).

Your writing makes you seem like a thoughtful, spirited and perfectly lovely woman/writer but the picture does not do you any favors in representing you to your readers. Its jarring – I apologize if this sounds too harsh, no one close to you would ever say anything like it so I thought I would. I saw another photo of you with your daughter and it was a lot more flattering to you. Your children ARE beautiful as you wrote.
