Sometimes happiness comes under the most unexpected of circumstances.

That Sums it Up

“To see a world in a grain of sand and heaven in a wild flower hold infinity in the palms of your hand and eternity in an hour.” ~William Blake

Each time I try to understand

The whole, parts slip through my

Fingers, like fine grains of sand.

Just when I think we’ve reached

A wonderful plateau of lasting peace

The earth suddenly shifts beneath us

Doubt, anger, conflict, resentment, pain arise.

Blame is assigned.  Life seems unfair.

The past is stirred up and

Then it settles, like particles of

Dirt in a glass of water.

How do we keep it from

Poisoning our relations? Damaging our kids?

Hope, that sums it up, hope.

Always searching for rays of light

In the darkness, always remembering that

We can find a way back

To reconciliation, peace and love, albeit

Temporarily because the nature of life

Is change, and what we feel

One day, alas, may not be

What we feel the next one.

Patience, that sums it up, patience.

We are only human and hence

Imperfect beings on the path to

Getting it right, but that path

Is long and windy and the

End is not always in sight.

Love, that sums it up, love.

That has been our only constant.

Love for our kids, and love

For each other. Maybe at times

The feeling is murky or strained,

But, like a bloodhound, I am

Always on its trail, as its

Sweet scent never fails to lead

Me to an infinitely better place.

I love this one. I feel so much the same. I find, though, in my most painful times, is when I am touched by grace. My heart can connect with all the suffering of the world and I see bigger. There is more to life than the American dream and for some odd reason, sadness seems to connect me more.
I’ve been thinking of you as I embark on a new separation from my husband, father of my two sweet boys. Man, this is hard, but you have been an inspiration to me. If this comes to divorce for us, I hope we can keep it peaceful. xo

Thanks, Ayala. I’m going through some anger towards my ex right now and I haven’t felt that in quite some time so I needed to remind myself what is truly important.

Yes! And I think that the external world will never bring us peace of mind. There will always be something that stirs around us. The goal using these things love, hope, patience… is to find our peace in spite of.

    Great post.
